Talent can be found for a T-shirt

Kerrin Black is a wonderful lady. She's made me another unbelievable three-way offer. And she's also the person behind Faces of Hope.

Kerrin Black of Talentfinders.com

But this post isn't about that.

It's about Talent... and finding it.

Talentfinders is the web-based database for the entertainment industry. It's the place on the internet to be listed if you are an artist, model, sports start, musician or any other kind of entertainer. If you want exposure to the whole wide world, this is the www you want to be on.

And Kerrin has offered not one, but TWO year long listings on Talentfinders for just one of my T-shirts.

So if you're a professional entertainer, or even an amateur one new to the industry, this is your chance to be listed on the site for a year, and to get your friend listed. And you don't have to have an agent. But if you do, that is ok too- you and your agent can get listed for just one T-shirt. Agents – you can also be listed on the site, and then list one of your talents too, just for one T-shirt.

So this offer is open to anyone who is:

  • an agent of talent
  • talented

And the kind of talent that is found here is:

  • models
  • public speakers
  • artists
  • sports people
  • musicians
  • stand up comedians
  • dancers
  • presenters
  • voice over artists
  • master of ceremonies
  • fire poi dancers
  • graffiti artists ;)
  • ventriloquist
  • etc

So for Talent out there, this is an offer to market yourself as well as get exposure to a very valuable database for clients.

And this offer is going to go fast- so it'll be to the first person who PHONES ME on 0837302979 to be part of this 3-way Trade.

This 3-way Trade is for:

  • You to get 2 listings on the talenfinders.com website
  • Kerrin to get one T-shirt
  • Me to trade on another of my T-shirts

I chatted with the Ice God and the Chosen One

Mongezi hooked me up with Chuma Kave. Chuma sounds like a rock star- his passion is daydreaming and daring- what an awesome combination. He also believes he is the CHOSEN ONE- seriously! So I look forward to meeting him in person one day, then I can say I've met the Chosen One, Chuma Kave himself.

But seriously, I'd like to meet him one day and chat more, because Chuma's also into helping entrepreneurs build successful businesses and uplifting rural communities through technology- subjects I'm into too. He's also created the Kave Foundation which focuses on empowering the youth through education, and is going to be involved with the Global Entrepreneurship Week in 2010.

Anyway, so Chuma phoned me up early on Tuesday 10th November for my interview on Radio 2000's super fantastic 'Super Fantastic Breakfast Show', which he produces. I went on air with Just-Ice Ramohlola. He's known as the "Ice God", so I think that's why Chuma and Just-Ice make a good team: The Ice God and the Chosen One on the same team can only be a hit!

It was a great chat with Just-Ice, and you'll hear at the end of the interview he talks about there being a "growing number of these people, philantropreneurs". He mentions that, because just a few weeks before he had interviewed my friend Adin who's doing a 'NO MONEY REQUIRED' experiment for 5 years.

And to now add to this list, there is also another South African, Sonja Kruse, choosing to live without money and show how Ubuntu is alive in our country, and she started her journey just 22 days ago with R100 in her pocket.

So with all these philantropreneuers, as Just-Ice calls us, popping up, have a listen to my chat with the Ice God himself on Radio 2000 by clicking here.

Enjoy!

Another evening with the 'matchstick girl and the cashless dude

I'm off to Cape Town on Tuesday- It's going to be a packed week in the Mother city, and I hope to get some quiet time on the beach and to also catch up with some special friends, and make some new ones.

If you'd like to meet up then get in touch! You can come and meet Adin van Ryneveld - the No Money Man- and I on Thursday night at the Primi Piatti, Cavendish for the onematchstick movie première, where Adin will be the guest speaker, and Mongezi the MC. Join the event on facebook here.

It's going to be a fun evening if the Joburg première is anything to go by, so do come along and say hi, and be one of the first to see the onematchstick movie.

Adin, Rod and Telana having lunch before the Johannesburg Premiere

Otherwise you'll see me at the Silicon Cape event on Tuesday night, or the Netweb Event on Wednesday, and at some point I hope to have a yummy milkshake at Fire and Ice. I've got no plans yet for the weekend, before I fly back up to Joburg on Sunday, other than to spend some time with my niece and family.

So it'll be great to meet up if you're in Cape Town: Get in touch!

Web hosting for T-shirts

So I got another 3-way Trade offer at the Johanneburg Premiere. Haroun has offered the following for some t-shirts- and his offer is just awesome, as he'll be giving away the T-shirts and auctioning one off! Check out his offer:

Hey Telana

This is to confirm that I offer website hosting worth, R1200 at R100
p/m for a full year. This includes installation of a WordPress blog if
the person so decides :)

This is for 7 Springleap.com T-Shirts, 6 of which I'll give out as prizes
and 1 I'll auction to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to
you and Adin, to creatively share.

Johannesburg Premiere of the onematchstick Movie

What a fun evening we had premiering the onematchstick movie! Now nearly 50 people have seen the movie.

A scene from the onematchstick movie
(That's me on TV!!)

Mongezi was our MC and he did a strip show, revealing the onematchstick official T-shirt.

Adin wowed people with his ambitious goal of giving away all his money over the next 5 years- he's now officially a public speaker, after this being his second time as being the guest speaker at an event.

I got to hang out with my youngest fan- Ashley and my biggest fan- my Mom.

Ashley and Telana

Craig took plenty of photos, while Lantz made us laugh with this T-shirt:

Lantz and Telana

Haroun spread some of his rainbow magic, and has offered an AMAZING 3-way trade deal (watch this space for details) and Honky d African Soul mesmerised up with a tune he entitled onematchstick, after seeing my graffiti.

Tu made an appearance after attending TEDx all day, and got to meet Andy of bidorbuy.co.za, who is organising to get his prize to him for winning the Springleap.com official onematchstick T-shirt design competition.

I got to meet new friends and fans, and chat to my long time wonderful friends!

The movie was well received, and many commented on how well it was put together (that's thanks to Jarred of Missing Link) and got the onematchstick story across.

Thank you to all who came and made this such a memorable and fun-filled evening!

Now I'm off to Cape Town next week to the Cape Town Premiere on the 26th November. I managed to barter my flight down to Cape Town, so all is sweeeet!

The onematchstick movie will be released after the Cape Town Premiere!

onematchstick pose!!

Three-Way Trades for T-shirts

So I still have 285 T-shirts to trade in order to complete my tenth trade. I'm being called to think very, very creatively about how to find the 285 people to trade with.

Nikki contacted me and said she wanted one of my T-shirts and would trade for it for a place on her small business startup workshop.

That got me thinking.

So I put the word out and within a day Chris had found Michelle who was starting her business and wanted to do Nikki's course, and for her it was a bargain to "pay" Nikki with a T-shirt and at the same time make that T-shirt count as a trade with me.

So we traded:
Nikki got her T-shirt.
Michelle got to go to the workshop.
I got one less T-shirt to trade.

An awesome Three-Way Trade!

That has sparked off three more offers for T-shirts that involved Three-Way Trading (is there something about the number 3 right now?)

  • David has offered 4 private Pilates classes for three T-shirts (Johannesburg only)
  • Tuesday as offered her beautiful artwork for two T-shirts (Global)
  • KK Diaz has offered his audio payroll workshop for one T-shirt. (South Africa)
So- below are the details and if you want to be a part of my big tenth trade and the onematchstick story, but you're not that into T-shirts, then let me know if you want to trade for Pilates, Artwork or Payroll training and we'll make a Three-Way Deal. Ok?

PILATES:

David du Plessis has been offering Pilates classes for many years, and – being my Pilates instructor- I can vouch that he knows his stuff and gets results. He combines Pilates with Gyrotonics and Kettlebell training, and is uber-cool.

His studio is in Fourways, Johannesburg, at the centre where I have my temporary office (temporary until I get my onematchstick office).

He is offering four private Pilates classes that could be used one a week for a month, or all four in four days- you decide- in exchange for three of my Springleap T-shirts.

So if you are keen to try out Pilates in the Fourways area, or get back into it, and get super fit and strong and have a laugh while you work out, plus get the four private session at a discounted rate- CALL ME!!!

ARTWORK:

"Tuesday Houston is a contemporary South African artist making a significant impact on the local art market."

She's been arty since – well forever! She's even dabbled in welding metal into gorgeous jewellery and is very into fashion and stuff like that, especially fashion for kids.

She's offered me TWO limited edition lino prints (about A4 in size) which are very popular, and unframed go for R900 in a Gallery.

'Dancing Girl' by Tuesday Houston 'Hula' by Tuesday Houston

All she wants is two T-shirts in return for one of the prints, and we can post the print to you! What a sweet deal!
So if you want one of Tuesday's limited edition lino prints- CALL ME!

PAYROLL TRAINING:

I met KK Diaz at this months Netweb event, and he's an entrepreneur. He runs Rekopane Payroll Services and develop a nifty payroll audio support programme called 'Payroll With A Voice'. It's South Africa's first payroll workshop in audio and workbook format, so you can learn in your own time, even sitting in your undies at home if you like. ;)

When he's not helping people demistify payroll for good, he's working on his record label dedicated to assisting indi artists, called Liber8. He's also just a man looking to play his part on this beautiful planet.

And his part in the onematchstick story is he's offered his audio payroll workshop for ONE of my Springleap T-shirts. It's worth R399.99, he's running a special right now for R279.99, but YOU can get it for R219.00 if you do a Three-Way Trade with KK and me. If you want this audio payroll workshop – CALL ME!

So it's as easy as 1 – 2 – 3 for a three-way trade with me.

I didn't do this…

The White washed bus stop on Jan Smuts

But I did do this:

Our latest masterpiece!

Because my timing sucked and our last attempt at graffiti got painted over within 24 hours, I decided to give it another bash, with the help of Richard and Carol... and on the way there we passed this white bus stop on Jan Smuts, just near the Zoo...

The White Bus Stop

I have no idea why someone has whitewashed the trees and grass around this bus stop, and the actual bus stop, but it made for a fun playground for a few photos!

Carol and Telana

Now I am looking for 285 people- I've trade 90 T-shirts so far, and am ready to trade with another 285 people for any of these Springleap T-shirts (use coupon code onematchstick to track your trade with me!). So contact me on 0837302979 to find out how to become part of the onematchstick story!

Carol, Richard and Telana

Are you one of the 302 people I am looking to find?

Passersby passing by

If you saw my latest mischievous act, and haven't heard of onematchstick before this, then you might be wondering why I graffiti'd "trade with me".

I believe... well it's more than a belief... I know like I know like I know that there are 302 more people out there who'd love a new funky springleap.com designer T-shirt and who'd support me in trading with me for one of the 375 T-shirts I have to trade. So I'm trying to find those 302 people (I've already traded 73 T-shirts, so at the time of writing this I have 302 T-shirts left to trade).

You see, I'm aiming to turn a matchstick into an office through a series of trades, where each trade gets bigger and bigger in perceived value, and takes me closer to my end goal of getting offices.

I've done 9 trades so far and for my tenth trade, I am trading the t-shirts on individually. So if you want to be part of this and trade with me, send me an email and read the instructions here on how to do the trade with me.

Are you one of the 302 people I am looking to find?

Carol and Telana- the Mischief Makers

( PS- this is my accomplice Carol who helped me with doing the graffiti, and me!)

DJ Al is in the onematchstick movie!

Next, on our day of filming, we zooted off to Melville to the funky Transky to meet up with DJ Al your Pal to shoot the trade I made with him: 1x Hot Air Balloon Flight for 1x Party.

Within a few minutes DJ Al had his deck all set up and we were bopping to some cool tunes as Jarrod set up his dolly and got the lighting just right. I got a chance to spin the decks too, after DJ Al gave me a brief lesson. Man, that was fun, playing around with the beat and all those buttons, experimenting with what little knob did what! I can see why DJ's have such a great time when they're tuning the tunes.

Jarrod filiming DJ Al doing making his music!

It was great too to catch up with DJ Al. Since we traded a lot has happened for him: he's got engaged, bought a super duper super bike, and created his own group on Facebook. He's the King of Entertainment and it's worth joining his group! Because if you're a member and get them a confirmed booking for one of their Karaoke DJ's, you get a R500 drinking tab on DJ Al's account! Sweeeet!

DJ Al still hasn't been yet for his flight in the hot air balloon- so I hope he gets some time in his hectic schedule to fit it in. I'm glad though that he managed to fit in the shooting of his scene in the onematchstick movie- it's a great scene, and an even better one because of his personal appearance! Thanks DJ Al, my pal!

Telana and DJ Al

Filming the 'books for wine' trade

Our next full day of shooting 4 scenes for the onematchstick movie was on Wednesday 30 September. Our first location was Solly Kramers in Parkhurst, where Wally of Solly allowed us to use an aisle to do our filming. Wally's the manager, and he's a cool guy, letting us take over an aisle like that... and he offers a good price on First Sighting, so we heard.

Nick and Telana

Nick was his charming self as usual. In between scenes, he was telling us about the story of how First Sighting got its name, from way back when that dude Bartholomeu Diaz was trying to get to the East and had literally a 'first sighting' of the Cape. Nick also got us up to speed with the happenings at Strandveld Vineyards since I traded the 2 books with him for 2 cases of his First Sighting wine. They have a new range of Standveld wines, including the Strandveld Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. The Strandveld Sauvignon Blanc has won quite a few awards, including the Gold Medal for the 2008 SA Young Wine Show. You go Nick!

Jarrod filming Nick of First Sighting wine

This was the first time during the filming of the onematchstick movie that Jarrod pulled out his dolly from his car. It's awesome how creative these creative guys can be: with a few plastic pipes and old skateboard parts you can have a nifty, little, portable dolly that does the trick just right.

The filming of the 'books for wine' trade went quite quickly, and next thing I know I'm sitting in the car park with Jarrod and we're scheming if we can fit in another shoot before we meet with DJ Al for his scene.

We did manage to fit in filming my first trade: the matchstick for the ordinary green ballpoint pen that I traded with Nikki. We filmed this scene in my mom's office and we even got tea and biscuits (thanks Mom and Sally!).

The onematchstick movie Update

Filming of the onematchstick movie is in full swing!

I met up with the rockstars at Missing Link a few weeks ago and got introduced to the multi-talented Jarrod: my producer, editor and camera man. The team talked me through their ideas which I loved, and without giving too much away, here's a sneak peak behind the scenes of the onematchstick Movie.

Eran Eyal, one of the guys who I am busy trading the T-shirts with, was in Jozi at the right time, and we grabbed the opportunity to shoot a scene or two with him. He fitted us in his busy schedule and we met up at Primi Piatti Rosebank. Springleap T-shirts were all over the place, and we had loads of fun!

Eran and Telana, with Jarrod behind the camera

I had my first taste of what it must be like to be a movie star- and it's turned out to be not as easy as I imagined. We worked on the script right there and then, and thank goodness my friend Gen came along for the fun, as she helped me get the script just right (she also took a lot of the photo's- Thanks Gen!). There's a lot to tell about my story, but only a short amount of time to get what I want to say across, so we had to choose the words wisely. And then I had to remember them! From the excitement of it being T-shirt Trade day - the day I started trading the T-shirts - and the first film shoot, plus the fact that I had only got a few hours of sleep, we had a good laugh at my few tongue-tied moments!

Ha! got my lines right for a change :)

Eran's a fascinating guy- besides the passion he has for Springleap and their Tee's, he has a passion for life that's extraordinary and catchy. He left his mark on the movie with some of his creative, in the moment ideas and we even learnt a bit about martial arts after the shoot!

Eran adding this creative touch!

So for our first shoot, it was a great hour or so with lots of laughs, and we even got to hear Jarrod say "that's a wrap people!"

FAQ's about the T-shirt Trade

So people keep asking me these questions, so I thought I might as well share them here as you might be wondering too:

1) What is this T-shirt stuff all about?
I'm in the process of making my 10th trade. What I have to trade on is 375 Springleap.com T-shirts. I'm trading each T-shirt with 375 people for cash, through Springleap.com.

So to simplify this trade- if you want to trade with me you just need to buy any Springleap.com T-shirt online, and make sure you use the coupon code onematchstick so we can track that you are trading with me.

Then you'll be one of the 375 people I trade with- pop me an email so I know and can add you to my story :)

2) I missed T-shirt Trade Day- is it too late to trade with you?
T-shirt Trade Day- 18th September- was the day I started trading on the 375 T-shirts. It was after the competition to find the official onematchstick T-shirt, and was the day the code (which is onematchstick) to track the trades went live. Now the trading continues until I trade all the T-shirts on.

So no, it's not too late to trade with me. At the time of writing this I have only traded 46 T-shirts, and still have 76 pledges to convert to trades, and that leaves me with 254 T-shirts I still need to trade on. So please trade with me, and soon, so my tenth trade doesn't take forever. I can't wait to see what the next trade will be!

3) Do I have to trade with you for the official onematchstick T-shirt?
No. You can choose ANY of the Springleap.com T-shirts.

4) How do I trade with you for a T-shirt?
Easy Peasy.

How to trade with me by buying your T-shirt(s) and make them count towards my onematchstick trade:

1. If you haven't registered yet on Springleap.com, now's the time to do so.

2. When you are logged in, choose the T-shirts you want. You can choose ANY design.
a. Click on the SHOP button at the top of the page to see the available designs.
b. Or choose the official onematchstick T-shirt in the "being printed" section.

3. When you find the T-shirt you want, click on the size you want (there is a link which explains the sizing and the ladies T-shirts are a lady's cut). Once you click on the size, it gets added to your "shopping cart".

4. When you've finished adding your T-shirts to your shopping cart, click on the shopping cart icon on the top right hand of the screen.

5. Enter in your delivery details, and where it says "if you have a Springleap coupon, enter it here:" you enter the code, which is: onematchstick (all lower case, one word). This is a VERY IMPORTANT STEP! Please remember to add the code!

6. Click the confirm and pay button.

7. Check your details, and then you can choose to pay by credit card or EFT.

8. Just follow the prompts and you will have finalised your T-shirt trade with me :)

9. Let me know when you've made your trade via email or sms to 0837302979.

10. It will be great, if you want, to email me a photo of you in your Springleap T-shirt once it's delivered, as I'll be creating a page on my blog of all the fantastic people I am trading with in their Springleap T-shirts.

5) How do I know what size T-shirt to get?
Go dig in your cupboard for your favourite T-shirt. Measure its width and height, and then compare those measurements on the chart on this page to work out your Springleap size.

LADIES- the ladies cut it super nice, so don't worry, you'’ll look fab in your Springleap Tee!

6) Springleap.com doesn't have my size in the T-shirt I want. Now what?
No problem. Let Springleap know what T-shirt and size you want, and when there's enough requests they'll reprint that T-shirt.

So those are the most asked questions. Do you have another one? Let me know, thanks! I hope to trade with you soon!

and the Winner is....

Voting for the official onematchstick T-shirt ended yesterday.

10 designs were submitted, and by golly - each one was unique and brilliant! I want to write more about each of the designs over the next week or two, but for now, a big THANK YOU to all the designers who took part and came up with such creative and wonderful designs. Thank you!!

The top 2 designs were so close to each other, so very close!

It is with great delight that I announce that the winner is Tu's design entitled Mission: NOT Impossible.

Mission: NOT Impossible by Tu

So, so close behind this design was Caric's design called Fire works.

Fire works by Caric

Congratulations Tu- you've won the Prize worth R5300, including the R1000 to spend on bidorbuy.co.za

TRADE DAY- 18 September 2009
Today is also the day I've coined "T-shirt Trade Day" and it marks the final stages to my tenth trade. I've received 116 pledges from people saying they will trade with me for one of the 375 springleap.com T-shirts. So I'm looking now for 259 more people to trade with.

The official onematchstick T-shirt is now available as one of the T-shirts to choose from to trade with me. This T-shirt is about to go into production, so if you choose to trade with me for the official onematchstick T-shirt, delivery will take a few weeks. But don't let that stop you- it's an AWESOME T-shirt. And there will be a very limited number made, so this is your only chance to own one. There is also going to be a limited time that this T-shirt will be available too- so you better move fast if you want one.

Back to Trade Day. The 116 people have been patiently waiting for today to trade one of my 375 T-shirts for some of their cash. They've needed the official onematchstick T-shirt to be available, and also the special CODE. So here it is, what you've been waiting for - the code that you need to use in the "coupon" section on springleap.com when you make your purchase, so that Springleap.com can track the sales that are to be counted for my 10th trade on onematchstick, is:

onematchstick

Ha! Would it have been anything else? Remember though, that the code is case sensitive- so make sure you use all small letters and one word.

Contact me when you've made your trade so I can track the progress with my 10th trade. And email or call me on 0837302979 if you have any queries

Thanks!

Again, Well done to Tu! Check out the official onematchstick T-shirt here.

Thanks also go to the fabulous team at Springleap.com for running the competition for me, and to the super duper sponsors for the Prize, being bidorbuy.co.za, springleap.com, and poken.co.za

Vote for your favourite onematchstick T-shirt

So the designs are in. They are all listed on springleap.com. And they are all fab!

So fab that you need to help by casting your vote for which one you would wear, so that the most voted for T-shirt will then become the official onematchstick T-shirt.

And the designer of that most voted for T-shirt will win the prize valued at R5300, including the R1000 to spend on bidorbuy.co.za, the poken, the swatch, the coaching, the VIP tickets and the T-shirts!

So to vote all you need to do is:

1. Go to and register with the funky site springleap.com.

2. Make sure you're logged to springleap.com.

3. Click on "vote" from the top menu, or go to the voting page here.

4. In the section "One Matchstick t-shirt design competition" click on one of the onematchstick T-shirt designs - any one for now.

5. If you're logged in, you'll see the voting options: thumbs up- thumbs down and 3 other options in between.

6. Vote by choosing one of the thumbs!

7. It'll then bring up the next design for you to vote for, and keep going until you've cast a vote on each of the designs.

Easy peasy!

You can also leave comments for the designers in the "shout back" section. I'd love to hear your comments, and I'm sure the designers would too!

Cool. So go vote!

Let me know if you have any questions :)

VOTING CLOSES THIS THURSDAY 17th September- because Friday 18th is T-shirt Trade Day- the day I officially start trading the 375 t-shirts with 375 people!

Some of my T-shirts are on these shelves!

Tomorrow the entries for the onematchstick T-shirt Challenge closes, and voting starts!

I'm so looking forward to seeing the designs. I've heard a few descriptions, and seen a few mock ups, and they are all so wonderful- I don't know which one I'd choose! Thank goodness I won't be choosing, and you will be voting for your favourite. That way, you get to have your say in what will be the official onematchstick T-shirt.

I went to Cape Town for a quick trip to see my family there, and for a few days of holiday to find the Namaqualand daisies, and the display was spectacular! You can read about it on Rod's blog here.

Jumping for flowers!

Our theme song for our daisy road trip was Nickelback's "if today was your last day" and it turned out to be even more significant to me. I lost a close friend and mentor over that weekend, and it's been such a reminder that 'each day is a gift and not a given right'. I've resolved even more to live each moment to the fullest! Sounds so cliché, but I like some clichés!

While in Cape Town I got to try the pumpkin and marshmallow milkshake from Fire and Ice- the funkiest restaurant I know. I also visited the fab team at Springleap.com. What a buzz! There were people coming and going, groovy music playing, phones ringing, meetings happening, and couriers collecting T-shirts to be delivered! And in between the busy-ness I got to meet the team and see the store room. I even admired the view of the mountain from the balcony- a nice breather from the buzz inside.

The Springleap.com Team and me!

375 of those T-shirts in the storeroom are allocated to onematchstick, and I'm busy trading them on! At the time of writing this, I have 107 pledges to trade with me :) Yehaa!

onematchstick T-shirt Design Challenge

So do you think you can design a T-shirt inspired by onematchstick? I bet you can.

And I bet it'll be such a funky one that people will vote for your design.

Then you will win the Awesome Prize valued at R5300, including the R1000 to spend on bidorbuy.co.za!

So you know my story, right? Then just go ahead and design a T-shirt inspired by the onematchstick story, and enter this Challenge. And because it's a challenge, I DARE you to enter!

If you don't know my story, then you can give me a call and I'll tell it to you with pleasure. And with enthusiasm. Then you can let your imagination run wild designing an awesome T-shirt.

Or just watch this little amateur video I made to help explain this T-shirt Challenge.

To enter, you need to submit your designs to Springleap.com by the 7th September 2009 - that's a Monday. You can download the T-shirt Template Kit from Springleap.com to get going.

Read more about this challenge and the terms on the Springleap.com website here.

May the best onematchstick T-shirt Design win!

The Prize for the T-shirt Challenge

If you don't ask... the answer is 100% "no!"

If you do ask, the odds go to 50% "no", 50% "yes". I asked, and got more yes's than no's.

When I finalised the trade with Eric and Eran, and learnt more about the cool website Springleap.com, I realised that I needed to find an splendid prize for the T-shirt Challenge. Otherwise there wouldn't be much incentive for peeps out there to design a remarkable Tee and enter.

So I started asking people and even put out a tweet saying I was looking for sponsors. One of the things that keeps me going with this project is the warm response I get from people.

5 people stepped forward and answered my question. 5 awesome people!

Eric and Eran offered me 10 VIP tickets to the Springleap Party- the one they are going to hold once we've finalised our trade and they have the voucher for DJ Al.
And they are also throwing in 3 of the winning T-shirts.

Andy offered R1000 to spend on bidorbuy.co.za, and they have a heap of items to choose from.

Andy of bidorbuy.co.za

Tim and Amor of poken.co.za have also donated a poken.

Poken People- Tim, Eric and Amor

And Craig met me for a drink at Newscafe and threw in the nifty "Disco Vibe" Swatch Watch (Model supb100).

Craig, me and the Swatch

I have also donated a 2 hour breakthrough coaching session, which can be face-to-face or over the phone/skype. After all, if these 5 guys can make contributions to my dream, I'm sure willing to step up too!

So I am delighted to present the prize for the onematchstick T-shirt Challenge. It's a fabulous bundle of things to the value of R5300 and can be enjoyed by anyone in South Africa (and even abroad-you'll just have to come to South Africa for a visit for the party):
  • R1000 to spend on bidorbuy.co.za- Africa's largest online market place
  • A "Disco Vibe" Swatch Watch
  • A poken
  • A 2 hour Breakthrough Coaching session
  • 10 VIP tickets to the Springleap.com Party
  • 3 of the winning T-Shirts

So that's the prize. What are you waiting for? Check out the onematchstick T-Shirt Challenge details here and enter now!

Margaret

Even my domestic worker Margaret is pledging to trade with me for a T-shirt! Thanks Margie, you're a STAR! *thumbs up!*

Here is what she wrote to me:

I'm supporting you Telan... because you've been patient to have this. I didnt believe you could reach this much. If it was me I'm not that patient I would be stopped long time ago. I learn from you to be patient- at the last you reach your goals. In my language we say: "kgotlelelo etswala kutlego" which means, when you suffer, be patient then at last you reach what you want to get.
MARGARET

Margaret and me, with Dexter my 43 year old parrot in the background

This means so much to me. I'm touched. If I had this T-shirt I'd wear it all weekend in honour of Margaret, as I know she is making a sacrifice to support me with my next trade. (Eran, don't forget- I'm on the waiting list for when you reprint that Tee!)

Love you Margie!

PS- if you want to match Margaret's pledge to trade with me, send me an email. Thanks ! :)

The onematchstick movie

Onematchstick - the movie

Not at cinemas near you

Yes, there is a movie being made about the story to date of my trading of a matchstick into an office. Right now the team at Missing Link are brainstorming and putting together a story board for me! How brilliant is that?

This all came about when the enthusiastic Mongezi of Netweb gave me a call and said:
"hey Telana Banana, why don’t you enter?"

It hadn't occurred to me until that call that I could enter my trading project into a competition like this one, to win a corporate video. It's events like that phone call that seem to open a whole new world for me, and for onematchstick! It's probably also what sparked me thinking even more out of the box, leading to coming up with the idea of my latest trade.

So I wrote the few pages I needed to write to enter, emailed them off and carried on living.

A week later that ever enthusiastic Mongezi let me know that I was through to the final round- I was in the top 2 and had to do a 60 second pitch at the July Netweb Event. So I pitched up on the night, and I WON!

Mongezi, me, Sam and the Zombi

A big thanks to the Netweb Event for organising the Netweb Headstart Competition, and to the rockstars at Missing Link for sponsoring the awesome R50 000 Corporate Video as a prize!

I'm so excited! And I'm grateful! Grateful for the opportunity, and that I took the effort to enter. Shows you what can happen when opportunity knocks and you answer.

Two trades in one go involving 375 T-shirts!

It was 2am. I was wide awake.

Eric had made an offer a few days ago, but I couldn't see how it would work.

A few months back in March I had put on my creative cap to come up with a new strategy to trade on the party. And it seemed I must have had that cap on backwards or something, because it took 117 days to realllllly kick in and woke me up at 2am with a fantastic idea. I scribbled down a couple of pages of notes- you know how big and wonderful and fantastical ideas can grow at 2am, don't you? Waking up the next day (yes, I did manage to get back to sleep for a few hours), I thought that the idea was maybe a bit too fantastically dreamlike, so I let it be.

But the idea wouldn't let me be.

I decided to then phone up a mentor and he helped me shake the idea around, and actually it's turned out to be quite the 2am idea. I then tweeted Eric and said "I've got a 2am idea- keen to hear?" He said yes.

I sent him an email, leaving out the fantastical dream parts, and I got an even bigger YES back!

Now I'm a big fan of 2am ideas – they're the bomb! Mine helped me make a trade, getting one- actually two- steps closer to my office!

So here's how the Springleap.com T-shirt Trade is going to roll:

I'm making 2 trades in one go- my ninth, then tenth trades. These trades are going to take a few weeks to roll out, but they are full of fun!

TRADE NINE

I traded the Party of the Century with DJ 'AL your Pal' with Eric Edelstein and Eran Eyal of Springleap.com for 375 funky T-shirts.

This is the first time I am trading with guys who I met through twitter, and who don't live in Johannesburg. They're both based in Cape Town. How cool is that!

I met up with Eric and his lovely Fiancé Jade on Friday as they were up in Jozi for the IFS (that's the International Fashion Sale). Eric and I finalised the numbers, worked out the details for a cool onematchstick T-shirt competition (details coming soon), and then shook hands.

Eric and Me

I then zipped across to the IFS to meet Eran, as it was such a great co-incidence that they were both in Jozi in time to finalise this T-shirt trade and I was in the area after meeting with Mongezi about the onematchstick movie (yes- details to follow soon –so much has been happening!). Mongezi joined me to meet Eran and check out some of the Springleap T-shirts, and we had such fun chatting to Eran and customers and fans of Springleap T-shirts and watching the fashion show.

Eran and me

TRADE TEN

To trade on the 375 T-shirts I'm going to need 375 fabulous people to help me! I've had enough people say they'd love to trade something with me and be part of onematchstick, but they didn't feel that they had anything to trade for the value I was at. Well: here's your chance!

I am trading on the 375 T-shirts with 375 people, by each person trading some of their cash for one of the 375 T-shirts. And Springleap.com has agreed to help facilitate the trade for me- they're such nice guys!

And to make it even more fun, we're going to search for a onematchstick T-shirt design that rocks, and we're doing that through a T-shirt Design competition- which we're busy putting into place.

In September then, Springleap.com is going to help me make the 375 T-shirt trades by facilitating the process with a special code in their system. You'll get to choose either the onematchstick T-shirt design, or any of the other hundreds of awesome designer, limited edition T-shirts. And better yet, you'll get your T-shirt couriered within 3 days to your door! And you can be anywhere in the world to trade with me- anywhere! But this will all happen in September.

So for now, if you'd like to make me an offer to be one of the 375 people I'll be trading one of the 375 T-shirts with, just send me an email and then once I have the code in September, I'll send you all the instructions to trade with me.

Yes, this is going to be a process... a 41 day long trade, but a really FUN one. I can't wait!

So, to summarise:
  • I've traded the 'party with DJ Al' with the awesome guys Eric and Eran.
  • We're holding a T-shirts Design Competition soon.
  • Then I'm trading on the 375 Springleap.com T-shirts with 375 people, and you're going to one of those people, aren't you?!
  • If you want to trade with me for a T-shirt, send me an email now!

Oooo! This is so much fun!

Offers for one of the 375 Springleap.com T-shirts

These offers are for one of the 375 Springleap.com T-shirts! If you would like to trade with me for one of the T-shirts, send me an email on onematchstick@gmail.com! You can be anywhere in the world to trade with me- the Springleap.com T-shirts can be sent anywhere in the world :) Nifty hey! Then when we are ready to make the trade in September, I'll contact you with the details on how to trade your cash with me for a T-shirt, facilitated by Springleap.com. What fun! Thanks. Telana

Will you also trade with me for one of the 258 remaining funky Springleap.com T-shirts?

Ssssht! Don’t tell bidorbuy.co.za...

... that I sneaked into their offices and twisted someone's arm and got a copy of one of their adverts... Well it's a radio advert bidorbuy.co.za made but never flighted on air! I think Andy Higgins chickened out, feeling it was too risqué or something... I heard about it at the bidorbuy's Sellers Awards evening on Saturday.

I think the "ad" is quite a laugh though! So hence my sneakiness to get a copy and share it here with you:

But remember- don't tell bidorbuy, as they don't know I'm sharing it with you! They think I'm just playing it for my mom at home.

I've been vuvuzela'd!

Nikita Ramkissoon waved me down at the last 27 dinner after I gave my 270 second talk on onematchstick, and she asked me lots of questions, scribbling down some notes on a white paper serviette... the same kind of white paper serviette that Magician Marcel used to make a sweet smelling rose for me- not sure how he got the white paper serviette to smell like a rose- but it did! Must be magic.

I asked Nikita if she pokens, but she doesn't poken... yet... so I gave her my matchstick business card instead. Maybe next time I see her I'll give her a fridge magnet.

Today I got an email from Nikita with a link to the Wits Vuvuzela- the Wits Newspaper. She used 2494 characters to tell the tale so far of onematchstick. Being a graduate of Wits, I'm quite chuffed to have found my way into their paper.

She says
Can a matchstick be exchanged for an office? One Johannesburg woman seems to think so. In fact, she's in the process of doing so right now.
And yip- she is so right! I'm in the process right now. Processing along.

You can read the great article here.

Thanks Nikita! And by the way, Rod says hi too, and he hopes to get some road trip invites soon!

702 interviews

Finally! Yayyy!

For those that keep asking: here are the interviews I had on 702 Talk Radio with Jenny Crwys-Williams that lead me to find DJ Al Smyth- aka 'Al your Pal', who I made my most recent trade with!

Wonder if he has gone for his flight in the hot air balloon yet?
*NOTE TO SELF: send DJ Al an email*

So here's the list of clips of the fun interview with Jenny:

09/02/09 - 702 - 15H22

09/02/09 - 702 - 15H30

09/02/09 - 702 - 15H33

Another kind of party

There has been so much talk of "parties" lately.

There have been discussions about left wing parties, right wing parties, and all political parties in between with the South African Elections last week.

There's even been editing to advertisements to protect the innocent parties involved.

And there have been more questions to me about the Party of the Century.

But no confirmed offers yet... just rumours...

So to satisfy those who may have the same questions on their minds: the 'Party of the Century' is still going to happen. It's just looking for a Candidate to demand to change their offer for the Party with DJ Al your Pal! I'll be voting for the best offer, but will not be auctioning off my right to chose, like this guy tried!

I'm off now to think up a costume for the "emergency room" party this Saturday night that I'm attending! Any suggestions?

Help save these lions!

There's only 24 hours left to save these 16 lions!

I wish this was an Aprils Fools joke, but it isn't. Unfortunately the caring people at SanWild have run out of funding and can no longer take care of these rescued lions needs. The lions also could not be translocated because permits could not be issued. So unless people come together and take action, like they did for Earth Hour, these 16 beautiful lions will be "euthanized'.

You can read more about this on SimonB's blog, or just take action and make a donation directly into the SanWild account:

SanWild Banking Details: ABSA, Danie Joubert Street, Tzaneen, SOUTH AFRICA. The account number is 9111221180, Branch Code 334349, Swift Code ABSAZAJJ, Iban Code ZA632005.
Please user "Blog challenge" as your payment reference.

Lions are close to my heart. They are African, just like me, and also they are the brand of matchstick's that are part of this trading journey I am on.

So I've taken up SimonB's challenge for a number of reasons – what will be your reason for taking action and help save these lions?

Poken has hit South Africa!

And I'm one of the first to own an alien poken! Here's the story.

Don't you just love those evenings that start out with no plans, and unexpectedly turn out to be such great evenings? I had one such evening last night.

Mike sent out a reminder via facebook and Carl on twitter, that the 27diner was happening last night on the 26th because of the cricket today. I happened to be in Sandton finishing off a meeting, so spontaneously decided to pop by Capello's to say hi, planning to just stay for a bit and then head home.

Turns out the format was an unconference, and they were asking for speakers from those who attended to take part, and who would get 270 seconds to share something interesting. Lantz and Christopher put my name down to talk about onematchstick. So it's their entire fault that I own an alien poken now! (PS- Thanks guys :o) )

There were many interesting topics, like Christopher who shared how he manages companies' online reputations, and Heidi who turned off the lights during her talk in support of Earth Hour on Saturday. Lantz shared about all the smells he experiences on his scooter as he zips through the traffic to work every day, and I learnt the story of Madam Zingara from Marcel just before he dazzled us with his magic! We even heard about yummy VitaminWater and I got to sample the orange flavour. Sweeet!

There was a prize for the best speech, and I was voted as the winner! So Tim and Amor of Poken.co.za let me choose my poken and showed me how to work it. I went for this green monster, but the bee and panda bear were cute too!

My alien poken

Poken is a nifty gadget that lets you share your contact and social networking details with others who poken, in just a few seconds. Only thing is I feel like the first person who owned a fax machine must have felt like... So I need you to get a poken too, so when we meet, and I ask "do you poken?" I'll get an excited nod from you and I can show off my little green alien! Ok?

What a great evening- thanks 27dinner, and Poken.co.za for my alien!

I got a thing for a matchstick

If you think I've got a thing for matchsticks, then let it be known that it's all about one. . . . matchstick . . . for me. Whereas for these two guys- they realllly have a thing for matches.

I went with my Mom to the Absa Gallery for the Absa L'Atelier Art Competition on Thursday. It was the exhibition of all the Johannesburg entries, and my friend Alastair Mclachlan's fab multi-dimensional photo got through to be one of the finalists, which will exhibit in a few months time. This competition is not only the oldest art award in the Southern hemisphere, it's also one of the most prestigious and the richest in Africa. The lucky South African artist who wins not only gets a scholarship and trip to Paris, but also has a nice little line on their CV for posterity.

One of the entries this year was from Lehlohonolo Mkhasibe:

Lehlohonolo Mkhasibe's Masterpiece

Lehlohonolo Mkhasibe
Kungaphakathi
Mixed media
I used a lifeline and called a friend who translated the title of this piece as "something inside"- and there was something inside the head: lots of old tapes. This R40 000 head is made up of hundreds of matchsticks- all burnt at the end! I wonder if the artist collected all the matches used while smoking... or just lit and blew out the matches for this piece…

Last year I went to the finalists' exhibition, and one of the top 10 finalists was Marthinus Stephanus (Stephan) Erasmus. Now he used 65 460 matchsticks to make a 200cm x 200cm x 200cm boat. And on each and every single matchstick, he wrote "I love her" on all four sides. That means he wrote that phrase 261 840 times! Geez man, that's patience.... or a major bout of love! The 'love boat', a metaphor for the love between 2 people, reflects the fragility of love with the fragile construction of the matches, which also represent the passion (they could catch alight at any moment as they were not used ones)! After some digging around, I found a photo of the love boat:

Erasmus's Love Boat

Marthinus Stephanus (Stephan) Erasmus
The Boat
Mixed Media

I wish Alastair the best of luck for the finals soon! I hope you get to go to Paris!!

Party of the Century with DJ Al for 150 people!

Between my busy schedule and Al's hectic one, we met yesterday at the vibey Newscafe Sandton to do the trade.

As I finished my yummy peanut and banana smoothly, Al Your Pal rocked up, almost as excited as I was.

Al started DJing at a very early age. At boarding school he used to read the Top 40 magazine and check out all the DJ decks for sale at the back of the magazine, and at the age of 16 he had his first deck. Little did he know at that time that one day he'd be meeting a girl known as the "matchstick girl" (yes- I seem to have collected that nickname somehow!) to trade a gig for a balloon!

So besides being such a hip DJ, who's DJ'd for celebrities and joined Bono walking around Alexandra, Al is also a down-to-earth guy who enjoys a glass of coca cola occasionally. He's also a bit of an adrenalin junkie, and frequently rides his super bike, jumps out of perfectly serviceable planes with a parachute on his back, and even goes to depths to scuba dive. Hence an adventure in a hot air balloon is just up his alley- and he's about to surprise a certain special somebody with this flight and breakfast. But well have to wait to hear more about that- I don't want to spoil the surprise.

DJ Al and Telana

So: I traded the balloon flight with champagne breakfast with DJ "Al Your Pal" for a party! And not just any kind of party. It'll be the party of the century! And here are the details of my next item up for trade:

1 x Party of the Century for up to 150 people, where DJ "Al Your Pal" from 084Extreme will be pumping the music and ripping up the decks to ensure your party not only rocks, but is the talk of the town for years to come!

You just need to add the bunch of cool people and the funky venue and drinks!

Possible parties could be:
  • Birthday parties
  • House parties
  • Corporate events or product launches
  • Weddings or engagement parties
  • Team buildings
  • Karaoke evenings
  • Theme parties
  • Singles parties
  • Fundraiser parties
  • Any excuse for a party parties
  • Etc.

Al's DJ company 084Extreme has been pumping music for 15 years, and comes highly recommended (references available upon request!).

Party with DJ Al

What's included:
DJ Al Your Pal, with all the necessary sound equipment to successfully keep your party rocking!

What's excluded- and you get to choose and add these key ingredients:

  • Funky people (up to 150)
  • Vibey Venue
  • Sustenance (that's all the food and drinks you'll need to keep up the energy to match DJ Al's music!)

Music – You get to choose what genre of music you want- Al knows allllllll genres, and is a fan of all music (although his personal favourite if he absolutely had to choose – which I made him do in the moment - is alternative!)

Date is subject to availability, and Gauteng area only:
The date of the party will be at a time that DJ Al is available, as he is personally going to be DJ'ing this event! So the party has to happen in Gauteng too. If you are keen, check with me if the date you want your party to be on is available, and make me your offer! The party will need to be within 6 months from the day of trading for the party (but if you want your party 6 months and 2 days after trade date- I am sure I'll be able to negotiate with Al ;0) )

So, who wants to PARTYYYY? Just send me your offer (via onematchstick@gmail.com or sms 0837302979 or via facebook) of what you'd trade for the Party of the Century with DJ Al for 150 people, and let's see what happens!

702 equals 12 offers in 40 minutes

My "how-quick-can-I-get-offers" record was broken today: I received 12 offers in the space of 40 minutes during my exciting live interview on Talk Radio 702 this afternoon.

Jenny Crwys-Williams gave me a call and we chatted about my trading project, and then she took some offers live on the air! What fun! I'm going to see if I can get a copy of the show for you to listen to!

The offers that came in are soooo interesting and now with the other fab offers I've already been made, my decision making process needs some super-duper-energy-booster to process which will be the best offer. And I also still have the offer of some bling (a larny gold ring) that the guy wants an i-phone for (he's into gadgets more than hot, airy adventures in brightly coloured balloooons).

Some of the offers that came through on live radio were:
  • A photoshoot for 2 people
  • 2 original portrait paintings by top artist Nusia
  • 9 days with some of the worlds top professors from 19 March to learn about growing your business with Wits Business School
  • R10000 worth of below the line design with a satisfaction guarantee (I like that kind of guarantee)
  • A party with DJ Al for 150 people- you choose the venue and invite the peeps, he’ll provide the sound and lighting
  • A midweek getaway for 16 to 20 Feb (I missed writing down where this is in all the excitement of receiving so many fabulous offers)
  • A King George stamp or a silver coin – have to find out more info
  • An original print (number 73) still wrapped up by David Shephard
  • A solar geyser with installation and guarantees from Smart Plumbing
  • A week in the waterburg 20 to 27 Feb at Mabula (?)
So- I'm busy contacting these groovy people to get the details, and will update my offers page with all the info.

I then got 2 offers via email for:
- a voucher for a BIG lunch or dinner at Col'Cacchio Pizzeria Fairland (I love Col'Cacchio pizza!)
- A set of false teeth... (seriously!)

So if you would like any of these offers PLEASE shout and let me know like soon soon! Even sooner- like yesterday!

A BIG thanks to Jenny and Gary at 702 for making this happen- you guys rock!

Matchstick Girl

I have taken the vow.

On November 7, 2008, at 9:45 am, the 500 people attending the Alliance for a New
Humanity
Human Forum in Barcelona took a vow for non violence in their thoughts,
speech and actions. Each person decided to ask other people in their lives to
join them in taking the vow.
I take the vowI have taken this vow. I was the eleven thousand one hundred and thirty sixth (that's 11136th) person to take this vow!

The power of critical mass is exceptional, and I have added to reaching a tipping point to bring about a world of peace, harmony, love and of course LAUGHTER! Will you join me?

Deepak Chopra took this vow (and then does a funny little jig and sing-song in the video) and made it public at the Human Forum. This then has developed into a global movement and the goal is to get 100 million people to make the same commitment. You can add your vow to the list on http://www.itakethevow.com/

I have also vowed to make my next trade by the end of February, if not sooner! As I did that I got a call from an old friend I haven't heard from in ages (talk about synchronicity again!) who is willing to trade me some bling if I up my perceived value of my item to trade... so if I can just trade this Balloon Adventure on, I might be able to do 2 trades in 1 go! Wohooo!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
